Sue Rainey
Sue Rainey is scholar who focuses her research on artists who prepared book and magazine illustrations during the latter half of the nineteenth century, especially John Douglas Woodward and Harry Fenn. Her book Creating Picturesque America: Monument to the Natural and Cultural Landscape (1994 and 2001), was the first study of Woodward’s landmark 1872–1874 publication and won the 1997 Charles C. Eldredge Prize of the National Museum of American Art (Smithsonian) for Distinguished Scholarship in American Art.
